Diversity Resources
Diversity is a hallmark of today's campuses and
students' future workplaces. Students' backgrounds, heritages,
abilities and orientations also impact their readiness for, and
ability to explore and capitalize on, the career planning process,
job seeking, and workplace transitions that lie ahead.
The Center for Career Services encourages the
embrace of diversity and provides the following to assist students
of diverse backgrounds to reach their career goals:
Information Resources
+ An online collection of articles, resources, and tips
that address specific student populations and diversity issues
+ Links to professional associations and internship, recruitment
and support sites aimed at specific populations
+ Books on career management and related topics focused on specific
populations
Programming
+ Annual workshop series on transition topics, frequently
delivered by employer representatives, alumni and other experts
+ Workshops on career development and job seeking aimed at international,
LGBT, and racially diverse students, frequently in collaboration
with campus support centers and student groups
+ Annual Diversity Business Summit focused on the transition concerns
of persons from a variety of traditionally underrepresented populations
+ Programs targeted specifically at international students whose
grasp of the American workplace is frequently marginal
+ Links to diversity career fairs, conferences and related gatherings
Individual Advising
+ Daily drop-ins, i.e. 10-15 minute, unscheduled interactions,
for answering quick questions
+ Longer appointments for lengthier discussions of, and coaching
on, issues related to diversity in the workplace and in further
education
+ Access to SU alumni through Mentor@SU which adds to the advice
given by staff members
