DIVERSITY RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

The goal of this collection of resources is to provide students with disabilities with information and guidance that speaks to the unique needs and issues that come with being a student with a disabiility in a search for temporary as well as permanent career opportunities.

Students should utilize these resources in conjunction with those outlined in the Graduate index that deal with exploring career options, internships, permanent positions, job search skills development, and the iinformation resources that impact all these areas.

Counselors at the Center for Career Services are available for discussions on how these resources can be used effectively.

Internships

The following represent the efforts of employers, associations and other groups to reverse the underrepresentation of certain populations in specific career fields.

Entry Point!
ENTRY POINT! is a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) offering outstanding internship opportunities for students with disabilities in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, and some fields of Business.  AAAS has developed unique partnerships with IBM, NASA, Merck, NOAA, Google and university science laboratories to meet their human resources needs. Working with its partners, AAAS identifies and screens undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities who are pursuing degrees in science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, and some fields of business, and places them in paid summer internships.

Emerging Leaders
Emerging Leaders is a highly competitive program that places college students with disabilities in fulfilling summer internships and provides them with leadership development opportunities. Emerging Leaders partners with businesses to help them find outstanding young talent while also considering diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices. Booz Allen Hamilton founded Emerging Leaders in 2001. The program currently is administered by the National Business & Disability Council .

2008 AAPD Internship Programs
Great opportunities supported by the American Association of People with Disabiiilities (AAPD) and the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars.

Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)
WRP is a resource to connect public and private sector employers nationwide with highly motivated postsecondary students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workforce. Employers seek to fill both temporary and permanent positions in a variety of fields. On-campus interviews in February begin the process. More information can be obtained by emailing Chuck Reutlinger, Associate Director for Information Resources and Services.

Minority Access Internship Program

Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP)
American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA)

This award is designed to support African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American, and Native-American college students majoring in advertising, marketing, communication, liberal arts, English, or who are able to demonstrate a strong desire to pursue career in advertising.

CBS Diversity Internships
CBS offers a multitude of internship opportunities in divisions throughout the company that are open to all those who apply, providing they meet the outlined criteria. CBS's internship programs span communications, marketing, IT, and other professional areas.
