On-Campus Recruiting
(OCR)
Most on-campus recruiting activity at Syracuse is coordinated
through the Center for Career Services. Exceptions include employer
visits to graduate and professional schools, such as Law, Maxwell,
Architecture, and to some extent, the MBA Program, and to offices
coordinating internships and field placements in certain graduate
programs. Students should learn how these other offices coordinate
with the Center for Career Services.
How it works:
Employers schedule interview dates months in advance. Most interviews
are scheduled for thirty or forty five minutes and, for those
who succeed in the first interview, are followed by lengthier
visits to employer sites for more interviews.
Employers advertise their visits on OrangeLink with specific selection
process deadlines, and
frequently hold presentations on campus to provide more information.
Fall deadlines may occur early in September for interviews that
may occur later in the semester.
Most require resumes to be submitted online in advance. Cover
letters are not always required, but may be submitted if a student
prefers. Resumes must be uploaded to OrangeLink in order to make
online application for interviews. Resumes given to employers
at career fairs do not substitute for those that need to be submitted
online.
RELEASE AND COMPLIANCE AGREEMENT
NOTE: On-campus interviews
provide great chances to connect with great opportunities. Competition
for interviews, however, can be very stiff. Graduating students
should develop other concurrent job search strategies to win their
desired positions and take advantage of all advising, seminars,
and resources available.
