Curriculum Vita (CV)
A curriculum vitae, or CV, is an expanded summary of a candidate's background that is usually used in the pursuit of academic and research positions, fellowships, and similar objectives. The term CV is also used overseas to indicate what we call a resume here in the US.
The Center can help those who need a CV with:
Self Help Resources. We recommend the following book:
The Academic Job Search Handbook
and encourage alumni to read the following discussion:
Preparing a Curriculum Vitae (CV) .
Provided by Quintessential Careers.com, this provides a thorough discussion of content and format as well as some examples and links to more resources.
Staff Assistance. Career consultants are happy to critique CV's with alumni to add to the assistance they may also receive from faculty members. Since CV's are generally quite lengthy, appointments are suggested rather than the 10-15 minute daily drop-ins during which the Center typically can critique a traditional 1-2 page resume. Call 315 443-3616 to arrange either an in-person or telephone appointment. It may be helpful to email a draft of a vitae to the consultant in advance of a personal meeting; it will be required for a phone appointment.
