Transitions: First Job / Today's Workplace
Most Syracuse students move on to employment following their graduations. These transitions can be eye opening for certain and sometimes scary. While networking with professionals can be helpful, and internships and career-related employment can provide glimpses of the life to come, students still may need guidance to make these transitions effectively.
The Center for Career Services provides the following to assist new alumni to transition smoothly to the work world. Alumni are always welcome at programs and workshops.
Information Resources
+ Links to articles, advice, and tips on first job and workplace transitions (See below)
+ Books on career management and related topics
Programming
+ Annual workshop series on transition topics, frequently delivered by employer representatives, alumni and other experts
+ Annual Diversity Business Summit focused on the transition concerns of persons from a variety of traditionally underrepresented populations
+ Programs targeted specifically at international students whose grasp of the American workplace is frequently marginal
Individual Advising
+ Daily drop-ins, i.e. 10-15 minute, unscheduled interactions, for answering quick questions
+ Longer appointments for lengthier discussions of, and coaching on issues related to transition
+ Access to SU alumni through Mentor@SU which adds to the advice given by staff members
