Interviewing
Interviewing is an essential skill in developing one's career, since a solid performance determines whether or not you will be offered the opportunity you want. The Center supports alumni efforts to interview effectively through the following:
Self-help Resources:
if possible, pick up a copy of our publication, The Career Guide, and read the pages dealing with interviewing. Our career resource area houses books and videotapes on interviewing, and can assist with strategies and resources for researching employers. We also distribute a free publication, Job Choices, which includes articles on first and second interviews, negotiating, and related topics. The online resources below provide additional insights into styles of interviewing and how to prepare effectively.
Staff Assistance/Workshops:
Career consultants are happy to discuss aspects of interviewing, either in phone or in-person appointments (call 315 443-3616) or briefly during drop-in hours, unscheduled 10-15 minute meetings from 12 pm to 2:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Wednesdays. Workshops are scheduled throughout the year and are publicized in the Calendar of Events on this site, and in the calendar maintained on OrangeLink, formerly eRecruiting. Alumni are always welcome to attend.
The Center also offers a Mock Interviewing Program, where you can get some valuable practice that just might get you your next job! Alumni near enough to Syracuse are welcome to take advantage of this service.
Watch a video on the value of a mock interview which was presented as part of a career development series in the iSchool in the Spring of 2008.
