Transitions to Life After SU

Most Syracuse students move on to employment or more education following their graduations. These transitions can be eye opening for certain and sometimes scary. While networking with professionals and current graduate students can be helpful, and internships and career-related employment can provide glimpses of the life to come, students still may need guidance to make these transitions effectively.

The Center for Career Services provides the following to assist students to transition smoothly to the work world:

Information Resources

+ An online collection of articles, advice, and tips on money management, relocation, professional adjustments and expectations, and graduate student life
+ Books on career management and related topics

Programming

+ Annual workshop series on transition topics, frequently delivered by employer representatives, alumni and other experts
+ Workshops on attending graduate school that touch on the difference between undergraduate and graduate education
+ Annual Diversity Business Summit focused on the transition concerns of persons from a variety of traditionally underrepresented populations
+ Programs targeted specifically at international students whose grasp of the American workplace is frequently marginal

Individual Advising

+ Daily drop-ins, i.e. 10-15 minute, unscheduled interactions, for answering quick questions
+ Longer appointments for lengthier discussions of, and coaching on issues related to transition
+ Access to SU alumni through Mentor@SU which adds to the advice given by staff members
