Standard Sanctions

Standard sanctions have been adopted by Syracuse University to respond to substance abuse-related violations of the Code of Student Conduct and other serious behaviors.

Situations to which standard sanctions do not apply:
1) Where a student is found to have engaged in multiple violations of the Code of Student Conduct in a single incident, rather than solely in the violation addressed by the standard sanction;
2) Where a student is already on a judicial sanction status equal to or greater than the standard sanction for a subsequent offense; and/or
3) Where a specific incident presents exacerbating circumstances, an ongoing risk to persons or property, or other serious concerns.

The presence of substantial mitigating or other appropriate circumstances may result in the reduction of a standard sanction in the discretion of the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students and/or the Director of Judicial Affairs, or the University Appeals Board.
