History :: The Mandarins, a select all-female a cappella group was founded in 1996 by music education major Natasha Schmemann. Mandarins are auditioned from the Women’s Choir once a year and perform regularly on the Women’s Choir concerts, campus events, benefit concerts, and invitationals at other schools. Under the direction of Kelly Stallard, The Mandarins began A Cappella Afterhours, a concert of campus a cappella groups presented each semester. In 2002 they took their first trip to the ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) competition and have continued to compete every year since. They have won awards in the categories of arrangement, soloist, and choreography.
