Xi Chapter History Five determined, strong women of varying backgrounds came together in the Fall of 1999 to establish a unique support system by bringing Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. to the Syracuse University campus. With heart and ambition, these women, "Bajacu," crossed pledged at Zeta Chapter, at SUNY Oswego, where we consider our motherland. It was a long, intense struggle for these women, but after overcoming many obstacles, they profoundly established our Xi colony. By November 2000, the chapter was chartered, and no longer a colony, becoming XI CHAPTER of OPBSI. In the Spring of 2000, Xi Chapter produced what we now call Tau Chapter at Utica College. A year later, in the spring of 2001, Xi chapter crossed its Alpha line, "Abrianna" of four diverse and dedicated women. The following, Beta Line, was named "Solymar" consisting of a solo deuce and that same semester, a second line from Tau Chapter, Nazeeya, crossed pledged at Xi as well. After waiting patiently, two years later, Xi chapter made history by merging two schools as one chapter. Our newest edition, "Haru' Ama" crossed pledged from LeMoyne College, a school just 10 minutes from SU, chartered by our gamma line Solo. Xi chapter has come a long way since its founding in the Fall of 1999, and continues to grow and shine Radiantly on the Syracuse University campus. Xi is a very active chapter that holds monthly programming events and community services. Many of them are annual events, such as "Light the Night Walk" for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Latino & African-American History Month's "Win Lose or Draw," "Are Men Dogs or do Women Create Them?" and various domestic violence awareness workshops, just to name a few. Because of Xi chapter's commitment to educating the Syracuse community through hosting various events throughout the year, the chapter has been presented several awards since its recognition on campus. The sorors of Xi Chapter will continue to strive for excellence and promote our Sorority motto, "Sirviendo y Educando a Traves de Nuestra Diversidad (Serving and Educating Through Our Diversity).
