Making An Appointment

When you call the Options Program, the staff will schedule you for the first available appointment. We will make every effort to work within your schedule as we prefer students do not miss class unless the appointment is an emergency. Appointments are scheduled for the top of the hour only (e.g. 10:00 am, 1:00 pm). The office is open during regular business hours 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

First Appointment
We ask that you arrive 5 to 10 minutes early for your first appointment. At this time you will be asked to fill out paperwork. Sessions with the counselor will last approximately 60 minutes. The first meeting is to assess your current situation. Rarely if ever does a student attend only one session. Please be prepared to schedule a follow-up appointment at the end of your session. Early in the semester it is helpful if you bring along your class schedule.

Second Appointment
The second meeting is to provide feedback/recommendations as to your individual treatment. The recommendations could include individual counseling, participation in one of our education groups, or treatment from a facility outside of Syracuse University.

Cost/Fees
All services from the Options Program are free to all SU and SUNY ESF students. Services are provided during most university breaks and through the summer. If you are referred to an outside facility you will need to check with your insurance carrier about coverage.
