Orange Pulse Dance Troupe is currently in its seventh year as an organization. Founded in 2003, OPDT was started by students interested in dancing for the sake of dancing. OPDT, now a recognized Syracuse University Club Sport and Student Organization, has grown into a performance group with a presence on the SU campus. While OPDT performs in many events throughout the year, our most exciting is our own "Annual Charity Showcase" in the spring. Because we pride ourselves in our philantrophic aim, the proceeds of this event benefit different charities each year, so students are using their talents to give back to the community.
We do not audition our dancers, and we welcome everyone. However, we do demand commitment and enthusiasm from all of our members! Dedication is essential to running our show and becoming involved in the local, Syracuse community.
OPDT offers all of the traditional dance disciplines, such as Tap, Jazz, and Ballet. In addition, we also offer classes in Lyrical, Modern Hip Hop, and dances that feature multiple genres.
Though there are no strict audition processes, we do hold different levels of dance classes to tailor to each dancer's experience. Because of this, OPDT consists of a range of dancers with several years of experience to no experience whatsoever.
Dance classes are taught by students and are ultimately geared toward our spring production. Classes usually start in the month of October of each Fall semester. Each class rehearses once a week, for an hour to an hour and a half in the late evenings or on weekend afternoons. The rehearsals are held in dance studios at the Archbold Gymnasium on campus during each scheduled dance class time.
OPDT currently has approximately 80 active members and has become a very prominent dance organization on the SU campus.
