| Advocacy The University R.A.P.E. Center provides support services for students who have been sexually assaulted. The R.A.P.E. Center advocates on behalf of students with other university units such as the Office of Residence Life, the Office of Judicial Affairs, and academic deans offices of the various colleges. R.A.P.E. Center staff will intercede for the survivor in situations requiring change of housing, change of classes or course load, leave of absence, and extended absence from classes. The R.A.P.E. Center staff provides judicial and legal advocacy if a student files a University Judicial System complaint against another student and/or pursues criminal prosecution through the criminal justice system. An advocate can be accessed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round by calling (315) 443-7273 (443-RAPE). Advocates are available to meet with students and inform them of medical and legal options and to accompany them to area hospitals, Syracuse University Health Services, the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety, and/or local police departments. The R.A.P.E. Center works closely with Syracuse University counseling resources to ensure that students who have been sexually assaulted have access to counseling services. Individual and group counseling are available to female and male survivors of rape and other forms of sexual violence. Individual counseling is also available to survivors of childhood sexual abuse, incest, sexual harassment, and relationship abuse. If preferred, a referral can be made for off-campus counseling services. For information on becoming an advocate, click here. Contact us: epsteinj@syr.edu |
