Employment

The Syracuse University Recreation Services Department employs students in a number of programs and activities. Some positions require certification and experience while others allow for little or no experience with mandatory training sessions. Work-study students are always preferred but in a few cases, (e.g. lifeguarding), non-work study students will be considered. Become part of an exciting team of student employees!

Intramural Officials

"You make the call!" Referees are needed for flag football, outdoor and indoor soccer, softball, floor hockey, volleyball and basketball. Experience or prior training is not required, but a basic foundation in the rules of the game is (you may officiate as many sports as you wish). There is a mandatory referee clinic prior to the start of each sport season. Check out the intramural web page at suintramurals.info for furthur information.

Lifeguards

Lifeguards are empoyed for two campus aquatic facilities. Lifeguards must have current certification (lifeguard training and CPR for the professional rescuer) in good standing. Interested students are asked sign up for a lifeguard skills test at the beginning of the fall semester. Work-study status is preferred, not required.

Fitness Instructors

Interested students with a fitness instructor certification are asked to complete an employemnt application to instruct fitness classes. Please contact Eliza Decker at 315-443-4386.

Personal Trainers

Certified personal trainers interested in working with clients on a weekly basis are asked to contact Ali Prettyman at 315-443-4386. Early morning availability is preferred.

Service Center Attendant

The service center attendant performs customer service duties such as checking ID cards and handing out equipment in Archbold Gymnasium and the Women's Building. Training takes place on Sunday, August 24. Available to students with work-study grants only.

Office Assistant

The office assistant performs such customer service duties as answering telephones, assisting with fitness class registration, locker rentals, and disseminating information. Available to students with work-study grants only.

Fitness Center Attendant

A limited number of positions are available at the Archbold, Goldstein, Marion, and Marshall Square Mall fitness centers. Training takes place on Sunday, August 24. Available to students with work-study grants only.

Late Night at the Gym

Responsibilities include those of the Fitness Center and Service Center Attendant: checking ID cards, Handing out equipment, washing towels and monitoring the fitness center. This program takes place Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00pm – 1:00am. Please contact Ernie Rivera at 315-443-3288 for more information. Available to students with work-study grants only.

Special Event Staff

Supervise special events including club sport competitions, softball, flag football, basketball and volleyball activities. Please contact Ernie Rivera at 315-443-3288 for more information. Available to students with work-study grants only.

Skate Guards/Pro Shop Attendants

The Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion hires students as skate guards and pro shop attendants, as well as instructors and hockey officials. The pro shop positions require attentive, courteous individuals who are willing to learn. Each of the other positions requires skill proficiency in specific areas.
