About Us

Upon establishment in 1997, the Syracuse University Women's Rugby Football Club (SUWRFC) became an immediate contender in the New York State Rugby Conference. The club has competed in the Conference Playoffs (Final Four) for the past 10 years, reaching the finals 4 times and winning the Conference in 2000. The Club has been invited to the Territorial (Regional) Championships a total of 4 times. SUWRFC provides a challenging athletic experience in a flexible, supportive environment. The experience includes skill development, fitness and playing the most exciting game in the world. There is a place for ALL backgrounds and sizes with no experience necessary, no cuts and everybody plays. The Clubs mission is as follows:

To provide the students of Syracuse University and SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry with a high quality experience learning, practicing and playing the game of rugby football in a supportive environment. To encourage connections both with students and the University and provide leadership and organizational experiences for the students involved.

The Club is registered under the New York State Rugby Conference and is a proud member of the United States Rugby Football Union (USARFU). The Club is currently in the Conferences Premier Division with high expectations every year. An International Rugby Board certified coach and two assistant coaches provide a committed, safe, knowledgeable environment for players.

Rugby is broken into two seasons, fall and spring. The fall season consists of our league play and is controlled by the Conference. Conference and Territorial playoffs are played in the fall. The fall season consists on 4 league games and 2 non-league games. Each rugby match has a first side game and a second side game where play development is taught in a game situation.

The spring season is controlled by each individual club. The Club has scheduled tournaments in Pittsburgh, New York City, and Philadelphia, PA.

Features of the Club are:

  • Travel to other colleges to meet and compete with other students
  • Flexible practice schedule
  • Exposure to a national and international community of friends and business contacts.
