What
We've Done So Far
- The
Syracuse University Ski Racing Club (SUSRC) has a rich history
of events that have helped to create the success and competition
in existence today. The team consistently finishes among the top
club ski teams in the country at the National Championship Race.
Until 1979, competitive downhill racing was
a varsity sport at Syracuse University. After the athletic program
was forced to cut funds, the ski team was removed from the S.U.
sponsored program. In order to keep the sport alive, determined
individuals formed SUSRC. Not only was the sport of ski racing
continued, but also the club incorporated and opened it's doors
to all interested students. Since 1979, SUSRC has competed in
the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA).
Team Accomplishments
**Best National Championship Club Team Finish (5th) 2007.
Competing
within the Mideast collegiate ski conference, SUSRC racers have
qualified and won several regional and national events. Twelve
SUSRC Alpine teams and six Nordic teams have qualified for Nationals.
Both the men and women from each group have won several conference
championships, including a few undefeated seasons. SUSRC has been
named the best club team in the nation.
Past
Season Results
-
2007-2008 -
In a new and challenging Mideast Region that pitted SU against
the best of New York, the men's team finished 2nd in the
Conference and Regionals earning them a spot to Nationals at
Sunday River, Maine. The women's team also had a solid year as
they finished 4th in the conference and 4th at Regionals.
2006-2007 -
Both the men and woman's team did extremely well. The men's team
took 1st place in the Conference and Regionals, and had the best
club finish in USCSA history with 5th place at Nationals in
Winter Park, Colorado. The woman's team took 2nd in the
conference and 3rd at Regionals while also taking 10th place at
Nationals.
2005-2006
The men's team finished first in conference and
regionals and finished 10th at Nationals (best club finish).
Women were first in the conference and regionals and also
finished 10th at nationals (tied for best club finish).
2002-2003
The SUSRC returning members are excited to see such a large
group of enthusiastic freshmen join the team this year. Monday
and Thursday night dryland training sessions have been successful
and team members are feeling stronger then ever. The annual
Killington Trip was attended by 40 members and all who attended
reported great skiing and good times. As the end of the fall
semester approaches, we are looking forward to lots of falling
frozen white stuff and the start of ski camp.
2001-2002
Both the varsity men’s and women’s teams ended
great regular season performances by qualifying for the Regional
Championships, held on our home turf, at Toggenburg and Labrador
mountains. Despite great skiing, a little bad luck cost the
men a trip to the USCSA National Championships. The women’s
team made a strong showing and extended their season for another
week at the National Championships in Waterville Valley, NH
where they finished 12th overall and were once again named
the top women’s club team in the country.
2000-2001
The varsity women’s team ended a successful season by
qualifying for the USCSA National Championships in Bogus Basin,
Idaho where they enjoyed the sun and the snow and finished
6th overall and were named the top club team in the nation.
1999-2000
Ming Kung represented the men’s varsity team at the
Regional Championships after being named the top individual
male racer in the conference. He was joined by the varsity
women’s team in West Virginia.
1998-1999
At
all events our racers have dominated the slopes, receiving top
finishes for both individual and team efforts. The Varsity team
has also completed five weekends of races, which were qualifying
events for the Mideast conference. The men have raced steady
and strong, achieving a 6th place conference finish. Our Varsity
women have produced spectacular results, finishing as the Empire
Conference Team Champions, and 2nd at the Mideast Regional Championships
. Thus, after eight years, the women competed once again at
the National Championships, held at Mammoth Mountain in California.
There, the women placed 10th out of 18 teams, naming them the
#1 club team in the nation.
